Elisa Bonora is an ACE and BFE film editor and documentary producer who has collaborated on over 40 films throughout her career.
She began her career working with three-time DGA Award winner and fifteen-time nominee Joe Pytka, editing commercial campaigns for major global brands. Her work earned a Gold and a Bronze Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This success in high-profile advertising led to opportunities in long-form editing, culminating in her breakthrough project when Oliver Stone approached her to edit Comandante (2003), a feature-length documentary about Fidel Castro.
Elisa has since received two Emmy nominations as a producer, along with ACE and Grammy nominations.
Some of her most notable credits include:
• No Subtitles Necessary: László & Vilmos (2008), directed by James Chressanthis, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming.
• Brave Miss World (2013), directed by Cecilia Peck, which earned Elisa a second Emmy nomination for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking.
• Blackfish (2013), directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
• Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me (2014), directed by James Keach, which received Oscar, Critics’ Choice, and Satellite Award nominations, along with two Grammy nominations. Elisa was also nominated for Best Edited Documentary by the American Cinema Editors (ACE).
• The Ivory Game (2016), which was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
In 2018, Elisa edited the Emmy-nominated Ghost Fleet (2018), directed by Shannon Service and Jeffrey Waldon, and David Crosby: Remember My Name (2019), produced by Cameron Crowe.
The latter premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Film. After moving to the UK, Elisa was invited to join the honorary society of British Film Editors (BFE). Around this time, she co-founded Red Wolf Films, where she worked on:
• Deep Rising (2023), directed by Matthieu Rytz and narrated by Jason Momoa, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
• Maestra (2023), directed by Maggie Contreras, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Audience Award.
In collaboration with her Red Wolf team and business partner Giordano Bonora Groome, Elisa edited A Man with Sole: The Impact of Kenneth Cole, directed by Tony and Emmy Award winner Dori Berinstein. The film screened at Sundance in 2025 and won the Impact Award at the Boulder Film Festival. She also edited Kenny Loggins: Conviction of the Heart, also directed by Berinstein.
With a career spanning multiple award-winning projects, Elisa Bonora continues to shape compelling narratives through documentary filmmaking, cementing her reputation as one of the industry's leading storytellers.
